What is History? + "The Past" + Chronology + Time Periods of U. S. History 1789-1920

Click for enlarged view.

Today our 6th & 7th Graders:
  • Got back their graded SMERFCAPS Quiz and received congratulations for doing so well
  • Read p. 2 of What is History? on the concept of "The Past"
    • Discussed the concepts of chronology and time periods
    • Discussed how in studying the past we are actually studying outselves: how we became the people, collectively and individually, we are today
    • Discussed how students' own pasts antedates their existence on earth, how they are partly the result of events that occurred long before they were born
    • Did a couple of simple chronology problems and used wall timelines to illustrate them
  • Examined a Timeline of U. S. History 1789-1920
  • Tried to begin working on a Pictorial History of (SMERFCAPS), 1800-1914 but encountered temporarily (it is hoped) insurmountable difficulties using the Open Office format and spent more time examining the Timeline of U. S. History 1789-1920
Assignment for Tuesday: None
