Private Blogger Invites + Asimov PPTs. + Dropbox

Today our Grades 6/7 students did the following.

• If they have their student blog set to private, students invited their parents, 8th graders, and Dr. Carpenter to be able to read their blogs. Here were the instructions they were given:
• If your blog is PRIVATE, send invitation(s) to your parents, the 8th graders, and Dr. Carpenter to be able to read your blog.
• Design--Settings--Permissions--Blog Readers--Edit--Private-Only these readers--Email addresses
• Dr. Carpenter's email address: BCarpenter@christchurchschooltemple.com
• I sent each of you an email with your classmates' gmail addresses and instructions for inviting them to be able to read your blog.
• Worked with their groupmates in the Asimov PowerPoint of their choice, as described yesterday.
• We encountered a problem downloading and then opening Microsoft PowerPoint documents with Open Office. These, as best I remember, are the steps that seemed to work.
1. Click on the link to the ppt. in Dropbox.
2. Download it to your computer.
3. Open the Dropbox folder on your computer.
4. Right click on the ppt. document.
5. Click Open with.
6. Click Find another app.
7. Click on the one that includes the words "Open Office."
• Signed up for Dropbox accounts, downloaded Dropbox to their computers, and began to use the excellent cloud storage service.

Assignment: Due Wednesday

1. Have the Asimov ppt. completed by classtime on Wednesday, 8/26. 
2. We will post it to your blog using a Dropbox link and by taking a screenshot in one of two ways:
• by using the Prt Sc (Print Screen) key on your computer or 
• by using the Snipping Tool, which should be somewhere in your computer.
