Snipping Tool + Asimov ppts + Student Definitions of "History" + What is History? + Heads-Up on SMERFCAPS Quiz

Today, our sixth and seventh graders:

  • Learned to use the Windows Snipping Tool by
    • Pressing the Windows Key (i.e., Start Key)
    • Typing Snipping Tool in the search bar
    • Right-clicking Pin to Task Bar
  • Then applied this technique to their Asimov ppts. and posted their work at their blogs
  • Were reminded of a very useful Keyboard Command for finding a word or words on any web page: Ctrl-F - Type word(s) in search box. This also works in Word/Open Office, pdf. files, etc.
  • Student Definitions of "History"
    • Wrote their own definitions of "history"
    • Copied and pasted their definitions into this Google Doc
    • Analyzed & evaluated their and their classmates' definitions by
      • Selecting similarities between their definition & other classmates' who had used similar terminology & definitions & pointing them out in comments
      • Selecting differences between their definition & those of other classmates
    • Wrote a paragraph stating which student had written the best definition & giving 3 reasons why it was the best
  • Opened a document called What is History? & were advised they would have a Quiz over the SMERFCAPS section on Friday
    • Students should learn every bit of information in the SMERFCAPS section.
    • Students were advised to begin studying today and tonight.
    • We will do practice preparation during class on Thursday.

Assignment - For Thursday

  1. Asimov ppt. - have your analysis posted at your blog by classtime Thursday
  2. Be studying the SMERFCAPS section of What is History? for Friday's Quiz.
    • Quizzes count as two and sometimes three daily grades, so you definitely need to study.
  3. Here's a note I just now added at the Google Doc of Student Definitions of "History":
Note to Students - 2:23 P.M., Wednesday, 8/26/15 - Very good analysis and evaluation, students! I have closed the document to editing. If you need to add something, please write me an email and I’ll open it back up to you. You can all still write Comments, but as always, be courteous and intellectual.
