Ch. 9 Notetaking Collaboration: Nationalism and Nation Building

Today the Sixthies & Seventhies:

• Got back their Spelling/Vocab Quizzes over Bartleby-Part 1
• Were assigned sections from Ch. 9 on Nationalism & Nation Building and took notes that will be compiled in a collaborative Google Document
• Were advised to read an online summary & watch an analysis video of "Bartleby the Scrivener" (See below.)

Assignments

For Wednesday

1. Read an online summary of Bartleby--Do a Google or Bing Search of "online summary of Bartleby the Scrivener" and read one you like.
2. Watch a video summarizing & analyzing Bartleby. Several I've watched & enjoyed are here, here, here, and here.
3. If interested, read over and be thinking about these Possible Interpretations of "Bartleby the Scrivener". We will discuss them tomorrow.

For Thursday - Quiz over Spelling/Vocab-Bartleby-Part 2

For Tuesday, 12/1/15-Prequel to "Bartleby" - Account for the following:

• What might have happened in Bartleby's life from birth to his job at the Dead Letter Office?
• What effect might working at the Dead Letter Office have had on Bartleby?
• What might have happened to him between his stint at the DLO and working as a scrivener at the lawyer's office?
• In all of this be considering what life experiences might have made Bartleby the person he is.
