Spelling/Vocabulary List #1 over "Bartleby" + Sharing Imaginary Conversations + Reading/Discussion of "Bartleby"

Today the 6th & 7th Graders:
  • Got back/celebrated yesterday's Spelling/Vocab Quiz over Lafitte, Set 2
  • Made suggestions for improving the Vocabulary Assignments
  • Received Spelling/Vocabulary List #1 on "Bartleby the Scrivener: A Story of Wall-Street" - Quiz Monday, 11/16/15
  • Shared their Imaginary Conversations written yesterday in class and afterwards.
  • Read or discussed pp. 1-4 of "Bartleby"; kudos to the students who used their initiative yesterday to hunt down the story online, thereby compensating for the teacher's inadvertant omission of the link.
Assignments

For Wednesday
1. Read pp. 1-4 in "Bartleby." (Apologies for not including the link yesterday.)
2. Post 4 good discussion questions over pp. 1-4 at your blog (at least 1 question for each page).
3. Pay close attention to the Narrator/Lawyer/Boss's interaction with each of the characters:
  • Turkey
  • Nippers
  • Ginger Nut
  • Bartleby
4. If you encounter words you can't define, do the following: Double click-->Right click-->Look Up-->Encarta. You will find the definition on the right-hand side of the page.
5. By the way, if you'd like to listen to AUDIO versions of "Bartleby," click the following: Part 1 & Part 2.
6. You also might find useful this Text of "Bartleby" with Clickable Links of Information on Key Aspects of the Story. BTW, you don't have to agree with every interpretation expressed in the notes. I certainly don't.

For MondayQuiz - Spelling/Vocabulary - "Bartleby"--Part 1 - Learn the first 15 words on this handout. (accord through indifferent)
